Send SMS from Claude: A step-by-step guide to texting from Claude with an MCP connector
Claude can send and track SMS for you once you connect an SMS platform as a custom connector. This guide shows the whole flow on a platform built with Ogave Retail: connect, try it in test mode, then send for real.
What you need
- A Claude account with custom connectors (web or desktop), or Claude Code.
- An account on an SMS platform that offers an MCP server (Ogave Retail includes one).
- The server address of that platform, for example https://<your-app>/mcp.
Step by step
1. Add the connector
In Claude open Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector and paste the server address.
2. Sign in and pick the mode
Claude opens the platform's sign-in. Choose test mode for your first tries: nothing is sent or charged. Choose the permissions you want to give.
3. Ask for a quote
Write: "How much does it cost to send 'Your order is on its way' to +56 9 1234 5678?". Claude answers with price, segments and encoding.
4. Confirm the send
Say "send it". Claude shows what it is about to do and sends only after your confirmation.
5. Follow the delivery
Ask "was it delivered?" and Claude reads the status and the delivery receipt.
6. Go live
When you are ready, connect again in live mode, or use a live API key with only the permissions you need.
Sending to a list
Ask "send this text to my customers list". Claude first runs a dry run with the number of recipients, segments and total cost; after you agree it sends to up to 10,000 recipients per request. For bigger campaigns use the portal's campaign builder.
With Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http sms https://<your-app>/mcpIn the terminal, add the server once and ask for sends, reports or contact updates from your project.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude send SMS on its own?
Only with a connector to an SMS platform. With an MCP server such as the one in Ogave Retail, Claude can quote, send and track messages, always asking for confirmation before sending.
Is it free to try?
Yes. In test mode everything is simulated: Claude gets the same answers but no message is sent or charged.
Can Claude send to many numbers?
Yes, up to 10,000 recipients per request after a dry run that shows the total cost. Larger campaigns go through the portal.
How do I remove Claude's access?
In the platform, Developers › API keys › Connected AI apps › Disconnect, or delete the connector in Claude.
